Therapeutic Treatments & Approaches:

EMDR Therapy for Trauma Recovery in Michigan

A science-backed approach to "unsticking" traumatic memories and finding lasting peace.

Reprocessing the Past to Free Your Future

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a unique, non-invasive therapy that helps the brain "reprocess" traumatic memories so they no longer trigger a fight-or-flight response. Unlike traditional talk therapy, EMDR focuses on the brain’s natural healing ability. At our Southfield and Grand Blanc offices, we use EMDR to help clients neutralize the emotional charge of distressing events, allowing them to move forward with a sense of calm and resilience.
PTSD & Complex Trauma

EMDR is the gold standard for treating Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. Whether your trauma is related to military service, a single accident, or years of chronic stress, we help you lower the volume on those memories.

Anxiety & Phobias

When your brain is "stuck" in a loop of fear or panic, EMDR can help reset your nervous system. We work with clients across Oakland and Genesee Counties to address the root causes of intense anxiety and deep-seated phobias.

Grief & Loss

Processing a major loss can feel impossible when the pain is constantly re-triggered. EMDR allows you to honor the memory of a loved one while softening the sharp, debilitating edge of traumatic grief.

What to Expect During an EMDR Session

Many clients in Mid and Southeast Michigan are curious about the technical side of EMDR. The process involves:
  • Assessment:
Identifying the “target” memory or trigger.

  • Bilateral Stimulation:
Using guided eye movements, taps, or tones to activate both sides of the brain.

  • Desensitization:
Gradually reducing the emotional disturbance of the memory.

  • Installation:
Strengthening a positive, adaptive belief about yourself (e.g., “I am safe now”).

Together, we will achieve success in taking care of your addiction and mental well being.

Common Questions About EMDR

The number of sessions depends on the complexity of the trauma. While some single-incident traumas can be processed in 6-12 sessions, complex or long-term trauma may require more extensive treatment.

Yes, research indicates that EMDR is highly effective via telehealth. We use specialized secure platforms to provide bilateral stimulation (visual or auditory) for remote clients.

EMDR sessions are typically scheduled for 60 to 90 minutes. This allows sufficient time for the processing phases without rushing the emotional integration.
